Thank you to everyone in Pornic for their hospitality throughout the 2017 visit to the beautiful town. Photographs will be uploaded shortly.
The Scalby and Newby Twinning Association (SANTA) was founded 25 years ago with the town of Pornic in France to encourage cultural understanding and exchange visits. Pornic lies on the Atlantic coast of France just south of Brittany and near the cities of Nantes and St Nazaire. Click Here for more information about Pornic.
Last year, the Pornicais visited us in June and were hosted in our homes. A programme of events, walks, and meals was devised for them as well as an opportunity to participate in Scalby Fayre to show their local produce. This year we will travel to Pornic to be hosted by them and enjoy a varied programme of events in the area.
The association also arranges social activities throughout the year with the aim of raising money to enhance the visitors' experience. For example, we've enjoyed an evening listening to how chocolates are produced for the local Arosa shop in Ramshill, and been entertained by Rachel Jenkinson telling us about the old way of life of women living in Scarborough's fishing community. Later in the year, we usually hold a pizza evening with a Christmas Quiz.
